Efficient Workflow with a Steep Learning Curve

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Epic from other similar products?

Epic stands out for its fully integrated, enterprise-wide health record system that unifies clinical, financial, and operational workflows. Its “one patient, one record” approach enhances care coordination, reduces duplication, and improves data accuracy. With tools like MyChart for patient engagement, robust decision support, and strong customization options, Epic supports large, complex healthcare systems in delivering efficient, patient-centered care at scale.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

One of my favorite aspects of Epic is how deeply integrated its electronic health record system is across clinical, financial, and operational workflows. That “one patient, one record” design means less duplication, smoother communication, and more coordinated care—something healthcare professionals really value in fast-paced environments.

What do you dislike most about this product?

What I dislike about Epic is its limited flexibility for smaller organizations. Epic is often tailored to large health systems, so smaller practices may find certain workflows or features less intuitive or unnecessarily complex for their scale.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

1. Invest in training early: Epic is feature-rich but has a steep learning curve. Prioritize structured onboarding and ongoing support to help users feel confident and efficient. 2. Map your workflows before implementation: Tailor Epic to your organization's unique clinical, administrative, and financial processes. The more clearly you define your workflows upfront, the better Epic can be configured to fit. 3. Plan for integration needs: Epic excels when it's part of an ecosystem. If you rely on third-party systems (labs, billing, imaging), clarify early how they’ll connect—and test those interfaces thoroughly.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Reliable
  • Enables Productivity
  • Trustworthy

Charting Success: Epic and IT Collaboration.

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Epic from other similar products?

Epic’s impact on our healthcare operations has been transformative. The reduction in duplicate records, better data accuracy, and the ability to streamline IT processes like downtime scheduling are just the tip of the iceberg. From an IT perspective, it's empowering to support a system that directly improves patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The customization within Epic’s workflows is a game-changer. For IT, this means configuring role-based access control (RBAC) for clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff without compromising security. Setting up specific permissions for lab technicians to access only the data they need was straightforward and ensured compliance with regulations like HIPAA. It's also a lifesaver when rolling out changes or updates across the network, thanks to its robust version control.

What do you dislike most about this product?

One challenge has been the steep system requirements. Epic can be resource-intensive, demanding high-performing servers and a significant amount of storage

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you’re in healthcare IT and considering a robust EHR system, Epic should be on your shortlist. While it’s not light on resource demands, the benefits far outweigh the challenges. I'd suggest pairing it with a strong training program for both IT and end-users to maximize its potential. Epic is, in every sense, a system worthy of its name.
