Query the Journey!
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates IBM Informix from other similar products?
Informix fits our travel business because we run high velocity updates from booking events. I think the engine handles mixed workloads better than expected. It suits our pattern where search logs, route adjustments, and booking confirmations hit the system almost at the same time.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I like the time series data type since it handles flight schedule shifts in a compact way. I used it to track rolling delays across UK domestic routes during a bad weather week. I also like the ability to load data in parallel. That helped me rebuild a fare alignment table after a partner called FareGrid Systems gave us a massive historic dump.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The documentation around smart triggers could go deeper. I had to test a few cases manually when building a feed sync alert.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Keep your fragmentation plan clean or query plans get odd fast. Use time series types only for stable grains since adjustments later take effort. If you connect Informix to modern modelling pipelines, create a small mediation layer so your schemas stay consistent.
Pros
- Helps Innovate
- Continually Improving Product
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing

Reliable, but Needs Modern Upgrades
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates IBM Informix from other similar products?
Informix stands out because it’s simple, flexible, and reliable. It can handle both traditional and modern types of data, making it a great choice for businesses with different data needs. It performs well in environments with heavy transactions and has built-in features like automatic failover, which ensures it stays reliable for important applications. The in-database analytics feature is another plus, allowing users to analyze data without needing extra tools. Overall, it’s an easy-to-manage solution that’s solid and dependable, though it may not have all the advanced features of some other databases.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
What I really like about Informix is how easy it is to use and its reliability. It just works well, especially when you need a system that can handle lots of transactions without a hitch. The fact that it supports both structured and unstructured data is a big plus, making it flexible for different business needs. I also appreciate the built-in features like automatic failover and in-database analytics, which save time and make it easier to manage without relying on extra tools.
What do you dislike most about this product?
What I don’t like about Informix is that it can feel a bit behind when it comes to some modern features. It doesn’t have the same level of cloud-native support or advanced AI/ML tools that other databases offer. Also, its data visualization options are pretty basic, so if you need more interactive or advanced reporting features, you might be left wanting more.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If you’re thinking about using Informix, it’s a good choice if you need something reliable and easy to manage, especially for handling lots of transactions. It works well with both structured and unstructured data. However, if you want more modern features like AI tools or better cloud support, you might want to consider other options. Also, if you need advanced reporting and data visualization, Informix might not be the best fit. It’s a solid, dependable choice, but make sure it matches what you need.
